Where the first-years arrive — Hogwarts Castle Boathouse #76426
Every first-year crosses the lake by boat. It is the one tradition the school keeps without exception, and the films use it to give the castle its first full view — low on the water, lit from inside, with the boathouse at the base of the rock. The boathouse itself is small: a dock, a roof, a few lanterns, and a door into the cliff. It exists in the story for about ninety seconds and sets up the entire scale of the place.
First years, this way
Every September the first-years still cross the lake in open boats, and the films stage it as a procession: lanterns on the water, the castle growing as the boats come round the headland. The boathouse is where that procession ends. The building in this set is small because the real one is small; the scale comes from the castle standing above it.
What the set reproduces is the arrival itself: the boathouse on its dock, a boat with first-years in it, the water, and a section of the rock face above with the stairs leading up. It is designed as a module for the larger castle builds, so the rock profile and the waterline match the other sets in the range. The roof comes off and the interior of the boathouse is furnished, which is more than the films ever show.
One point of warmth in a dark landscape is the whole idea here, and ZENE Bricks keeps every other source subordinate to it. Two lanterns under the eaves carry the main light, a cooler source behind the doorway makes the interior read as a room rather than a hole, and the water takes a very low blue wash that stops short of the boat. The rock face stays unlit, keeping the castle above it as a silhouette. At this size it reads as a shoreline rather than a building, which is the miniature trick.
The set is small, so the wiring is short and the battery box hides under the dock. Placed at the foot of a larger harry potter lego castle, the lego light kit gives the whole display a base line to measure against.
