Cinderella Castle has stood at the centre of the Magic Kingdom in Florida since the park opened in October 1971. It is 189 feet tall, it is the building on the resort's logo and at the middle of its fireworks, and it is a different design from Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle: grey stone, blue roofs, gold spires, and a shape that climbs instead of spreading. LEGO issued its version of the Florida castle in 2016 as a 4,080-piece build, and that model has been the largest Disney castle in the catalogue for most of the years since.
Four thousand and eighty pieces, just under a metre tall, and bolted onto a Technic frame under large plates that takes a full session before the castle even starts to rise. The towers of the LEGO Disney Cinderella Castle 71040 taper through stacked tiers rather than running straight up, the gatehouse is assembled from hinged pillars and arches with a lantern beside each gate, and the back swings open onto a furnished hall, a bedroom and the staircase.

Warm light sits in the gate lanterns and behind the arched windows, the rooms take a softer glow, and each tower window gets its own accent so the silhouette still reads from across a room. The spires run dimmer than the base, the way the real building looks after dark, and switched on in a dim room the effect is unmistakably magical.
